$5 National Bank Notes
issued by the First National Bank in Reno
The now defunct First National Bank in Reno originally
received its national charter in 1903. Its charter number,
7038, appears on both sides of the front of the note. Each
note also features the bank's name and the signatures of
its President and Cashier. The First National Bank in Reno
is one of only two such banks in Reno and 16 statewide to
receive a charter and issue National Bank Notes.

National Bank Notes were issued by many different individual
banks and were considered legal tender as they were backed
by the United States government. The top of each note reads
"NATIONAL CURRENCY SECURED BY UNITED STATES BONDS DEPOSITED
WITH THE TREASURER OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA".
With over 14,00 charter-issued banks, National Bank Notes
are generally collected by city / state or signature combinations.

According to Friedberg's Paper Money of the United States,
Nevada $5 National Bank Notes of this series are, in general,
the fourth most valuable of the 50 states and District of
Columbia. Goldline is very pleased to present a limited
number of these notes in pristine condition as graded and
certified by PCGS Currency.
